A defensive battle highlighted the 2017 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Championship with Tuskegee surviving for a 13-6 win over Fort Valley State University (FVSU).
The Tigers’ defense dominated FVSU the entire game holding the Wildcats to 183 yards of total offense. Two sophomore linebackers helped propel Tuskegee defensive effort. Sophomore Osband Thompson showed why he leads the
conference in tackles averaging 11.7 tackles per game by recording 14 tackles while fellow teammate Kevin Dawson contributed 12 tackles.
FVSU defense lived up to its hype by holding Tuskegee to one touchdown in each half. Safety Aaron Dore recorded seven tackles and a fumble recovery.
Freshmen defensive tackle Malcom Garrett recorded four tackles with two for losses. However, the Wildcats passing game netted only 38 yards and averaged 2.9 yards per play
versus Tuskegee’s five (5) yards per play.
