After missing three games due to ankle injury, Ria’n Holland returned to the Mercer Bears line-up to score 24 points in the 82064 win over Florida A&M (FAMU).
“It was great to have Ria’n back. He was feeling it from the very beginning and helped us get some separation,” said Mercer Head Coach Bob Hoffman.
Mercer won the game by leading in all of the major statistical categories, but what stood out was how the Bears outscored the Rattlers 26-10 in the paint. Dominating the glass early and ofter over a much taller Rattlers starting five, Mercers out-rebounded FAMU 37 to 22, grabbing 11 offensive rebounds. “I loved how our guys competed tonight against a really athletic team that fought for the full 40 minutes tonight,” said Hoffman.
Stephon Jelks was declared Mercer’s player of the game scoring 12 points, grabbing 10 rebounds and dishing out seven assists. “Steph was really impressive today as well. He has really been practicing and working hard on rebounding and he did a great job on it today,” said Hoffman.
FAMU’s Marcus Barham made seven three-pointers for a total of 21 points in the game to lead the Rattlers in scoring.
