HBCU’s Sent a Record Number of Track and Field Athletes to the NCAA East Regional

The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) qualified 62 individuals and nine (9) relay teams for the 2018 NCAA East Preliminary Track and Field Meet. MEAC teams came from North Carolina A&T State, Bethune Cookman, Coppin State, Howard, and South Carolina State.   The Southwest Athletic Conference (SWAC) sent 16 athletes to the event.  SWAC representatives came from Alabama State, Alabama A&M, Jackson State and Mississippi Valley State.  Only Alabama State 4x100M relay team qualified for the Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in Eugene, Ore., on June 6-9 at Hayward Field.

The MEAC qualified two Bethune Cookman relay teams – the women’s 4x100M and mens 4x400M for the finals. Coppin State’s Aaron Lewis – 110M Hurdles and Joseph Amaah 200M dash will be going to Eugene to compete. North Carolina A&T Anisa Toppen will compete in jumps and South Carolina State Tyrell Richard will compete in the 400 meters at the finals in Eugene.
